Before we tell you how to download the MWC wallet, we first learn what is MWC? The MWC network was launched in November 2019. Since its discovery in 2016, Mimblewimble technology is rarely discussed and is largely ignored. For example, Andrew Poelstra’s 2016 presentation to SF Bitdevs. MWC is a refinement of the previous blockchain protocol.
MWC is Mimblewimble’s coin-based work that enables greater network scalability, privacy, and equality. All transactions at the base layer use Coin Join Max Greg’s with Secret Transactions and signature aggregations.
MWC Fact Sheet
- Total Supply: 20,000,000.
- Proof of Work Consensus Algorithm: C31.
- Source Code: Open-source.
- Base layer: Mimblewimble.
- Every transaction uses CoinJoin and Confidential Transactions
The aim of the MWC is to build greater monetary sovereignty for buyers and shareholders in the cheapest and most profitable way.
The MWC development team seeks to innovate both technologically and economically to remove all the benefits of the MimbleWimble protocol. MWC team already creating a fully functional GUI wallet, developing methods for safe offline storage from MWC, completes the MWC / BTC atomic exchange on the test net, and is investigating multi-sig transactions and the Lightning Network.
There are many potential places for development resources that can be allocated. They will chosen based on market needs. The highest priority will be given to the main request benefits and come from buyers and last resort holders. While the MWC Team will carefully consider all opinions; they realize the most important the determinant of success for this monetary product will be the aggregate market decision as found on the order book.
The MWC network was launched in November 2019 and has been functioning perfectly with 100% uptime. The MWC team is considering the protocol hard and currently sees no need to fork hard or soft in the future unless defensive measures are needed to protect the network.

Notes to windows users:
MWC Qt Wallet binaries are often flagged by various anti-virus software. There is nothing we can do about it, so please stop reporting that to us. Anti-virus software uses heuristics in order to determine if a program is a malware, and that often results in false positives. You can verify the checksums of MWC Qt wallet binaries to verify the binary matches what is found on Github. Alternatively, you may build the binaries yourself, or run the software from source. Finally, if you are really concerned about malware, you should not use an operating system that relies on anti-virus software.
Additionally, we have some “basic CPU” releases on GitHub that are not posted here. These will work on older CPUs. Please see the GitHub download page for more details.
